Darke Deck
What is Darke Deck?
My own deck of playing cards named the darke deck per my last name. Each value has a different illustration that corresponds with the number of the card.
The project came about as a passion project at first, I wanted to see what I could do with the things I had learned about Figma as a program. This exercise gave me insight and experience drawing and creating illustrations and applying them to a creative idea. The project broadened my horizons for digital art beyond the UX/UI perspective.
ILLUSTRATION, FREELANCE

The Fundamentals
I wanted to test the waters of illustrating within Figma and learning to use the tools provided to create an end result I am happy with.
I started by researching the size and ratios of standard playing cards, and from there I began designing the suits. After deciding on a font I tweaked it to match the look I was imagining.
Illustrating the Designs
After I had all the fundamental parts of the playing cards down, I got started on the illustrations. Each value got it’s own illustrations based on things associated with that number, such as two peas in a pod, a four leaf clover or an eight-ball.
Using different techniques on different illustrations was a challenge but it taught me to use multiple different parts of the program in a new way.

The Future of Darke Deck
One day, I would love to print the Darke Deck and keep it. I doubt I will ever be fully content with how it looks and that is exactly why I would love to keep a physical copy. Having the deck in my hands would showcase where I was as a young designer, motivating me to keep pushing and creating what I love. Seeing how I grow and being able to hold what I created on my own as a 21 year old starting out in design.
